The Bristol City Council consultation on the Removal of remaining funding supporting neighbourhood action has just ended. The BCR CP Steering Group responded to the consultation saying that it was another blow to local community action and empowerment.
In Funding for Neighbourhood Action – BCRCP Response (pdf, 55KB), we illustrated the range of people and activities that had been supported by ‘Wellbeing’ grants in the lifetime of the previous BCR Neighbourhood Partnership. In many cases, the small amount of funding provided through the council was key to unlocking many hours of voluntary work from community groups and volunteers.
We urged the council to reconsider this final cut to neighbourhood funding, particularly when the council itself is urging communities and individuals to be part of the solution to increasing demand on council services.
